The National Softball Championships ended this afternoon in Port Moresby.
In the men’s semi-finals, defending champions Madang Kings lost to a strong Port Moresby Melona’s side 9-runs to 2 to meet Buluminski in the grand final.
Buluminski came back from behind to secure their spot in the finals with 7-runs over East New Britain’s 5.
In the women’s finals, Port Moresby Gold stripped the title of Madang with 7-runs to 3 to be the new PNG women’s softball champions.
This year’s championships saw the inclusion of visiting Canberra Giants. Team Manager, Ken Selu, said the team consists of a number of young guns, mostly under the age of 20. Majority of the team plays for the Woden Softball Club in the Australian Capital Territory.
And is confident in bring a number of teams from the ACT to next year’s tournament.
Despite losing all four games this year, Team Manus have taken this year’s tournament as a learning curve and will be equipped for next year.
Nine mMen’s teams and four women’s team participated in this year’s National Softball Championships.
