The national volleyball team is looking to maintain their status as the current kings of the Pacific at the Pacific Games this year, after taking the title off New Caledonia in the last Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna.
The team to compete at the Pacific Games will be boosted by a few upcoming youngsters from Vabukori.
Junior Harold Gima is one of the few who stands a chance at debuting for team Amoa for Papua New Guinea.
Last year, team Amoa PNG travelled to the Philippines to compete in the Asian qualifier for the Federation Internationale de Volleyball.
This year, the national volleyball team are out to prove that they’re a force to be reckoned with at the Pacific Games come July.
While the PNG Games showcased a lot of potential and up-and-coming talent, the team anticipating the Pacific Games is dominated yet again by Vabukori Volleyball Association players.
Last year, VAVA won the national championships for the 11th successive year, even though they were missing some of their more experienced players to other associations, forcing the younger players to step up.
Although the volleyball fraternity was hit by the untimely passing of national coach, Tommy Lui, the team is looking to maintain the form and standard he had brought them to.
While the national beach volleyball team is undergoing training overseas at the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, they are expected to return next week after competing in several local tournaments.
