By Dinnierose Raiko – EMTV News Port Moresby

PNG Cricket’s High Performance Program, which has been in place since 2009, has seen players coming out and competing at a more professional level.

Hebou Baramundis Head Coach, Dipak Patel, said the program is carried out at all levels including the A Team, U19s and at the junior level.

PNG Cricket High Performance Training Manager, Rarua Dikana, said the training aims to bring in the best international training methods to improve upon players understanding of the game.

He added this is so players can uphold the game with a professional approach.

Patel said the number of children participating in cricket is increasing as well, especially in schools at the junior club level.

He stressed that PNG Cricket’s junior programs are aimed at creating a pathway for young cricketers.

He said they also have a talent identification program in place.

Meanwhile, the Hebou Baramundis will be hosting Kenya in two weeks time in a series of matches that they are now preparing for.
