Vaso Responds to Paska’s Comments

by Eric Haurupma – EM TV, Port Moresby

Labour and Industrial Relations Acting Secretary, George Vaso, has brushed aside comments made by Trade Union Congress Secretary, John Paska, reported in one of the daily newspapers.

He claimed that the media report titled Union Slams Overseas Junket was “unviable and misleading to the people”.

In the article, Paska claimed the Labour Department is wasting 1 million kina of tax payers’ money to send delegates to Geneva for the International Labour Convention.

However, Vaso hit back claiming in accordance with the Law, the department will approve only three delegates.

“Following article 13 (2)(a) of the International Labour Organisation, the department has budgeted for the ILC trip since the 66th session of the ILC through the department’s recurrent budget as approved by the Finance Department under the Public Finance Management Act.”

Therefore, the National Tripartite Delegation will only consider three representatives in government, employers and workers delegates.
