Outstanding Laws Still Not Debated in Parliament

Yesterday all standing orders in the National Parliament were suspended while the Grand Chief was farewelled.

Currently, some key bills remain without further debate.

The laws to penalize those implicated in corrupt deals within government departments, have yet to be passed by Parliament.

It was fitting that Sir Michael Somare spoke of abiding by the rule of law during his speech.

With the Independent Commission Against Corruption Act, those who are found gulity of corruption will be jailed, and all their wealth will be seized for the state.

ICAC was tabled in parliament in March 2015.

The Election Nomination Fee reverting was also outstanding.

The outstanding bills could be forgotten after the elections, when there is always the possibility that a new government could be elected to power.
