Iarowari High Sees Improvement in Academic Performance

After 51 years of establishment as a High School, Iarowari Secondary is seeing improvements in its national academic performance.

School principal, Andrew Moava, says the academic performance of Grade Ten students at Iarowari, has improved in the last three years.

He made this comment when giving an update on the process of the Grade Ten National Exams, conducted this week.

Since its inception as a High School, Iarowari has been performing below the average academic score, compared to other Secondary schools in Central province.

But the last three years has been an exciting time for both teachers and students, Principal Moava says.

He said the improvement in the overall student academic performance at a national level, is linked to infrastructural developments in the school.

These developments include new classrooms, dormitories a library and sporting facilities.

Though it was established before other schools, like Marianville or Jubilee Catholic Secondary in the Nation’s Capital, its poor academic performance delayed it from receiving a secondary school status.

This year, it registered 700 students, 90% of whom are boarding students.

There will be an increase in enrollment come 2017, but the teachers here are determined to produce students with merits.
