International observers from Australia, European Union, Japan, New Zealand, United Kingdom and the United States of America have commended the Bougainville Electoral Commission for allowing many eligible voters, the opportunity to vote in line with Bougainville’s electoral laws.
Bougainvilleans were also congratulated for their commitment and enthusiasm during polling which is often conducted in a challenging environment.
It was noted that the commission and election officials showed commitment, resulting in effective and transparent manner at polling stations.
The presence of trained candidate-appointed scrutineers and domestic observers at polling stations further enhanced the voting process integrity.
Bougainville Police Service enabled a safe environment for the voters to exercise their right.
The international observers also pointed out several features that could be improved on the electoral roll and voting procedures.
According to Bougainville Acting Electoral Commissioner, George Manu, observations will be brought to the authorities’ attention.
