Australia’s new High Commissioner to Papua New GuineaDeborah Stokes, arrived in Port Moresby yesterday.
She was welcomed bythe Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Chief of Protocol, Jimmy Ovia, andthe Australian Deputy High Commissioner, Margaret Adamson.
The new envoy says she is delighted to be in in PNG at a very exciting time.
Stokes is Australia’s first female High Commissioner tPNG. She said she wanted to work withthe growing number of outstanding women lLeadersin PNG
Ms. Stokes who holds a Bechelor of Arts, Honors (University of Adelaide) and a Masters of Philosophy (University of Cambridge) comes with a wealth of experience behind her as she has held similar positions inthe past including serving as Australia’s Embassador to Austria and representingthe United Nationsin Vienna and New York.
Ms. Stokes who replaces Mr. Ian Kemish, AM, will be taking up her post in March of this year.
