Morobe Presents 2013 Acquittals

Morobe Governor Kelly Naru, wants the government to increase grants from the Provincial Services Improvement Program, to improve service delivery.

Governor Naru made this remark while presenting his 2013 PSIP and 2012 PSG Acquittals to the Secretary for the Department of Implementation and Rural Development.

Morobe Province consists of nine Districts, 33 LLGs and 600 wards which Governor Naru says is hard to administer.

He stressed that given the extra development grants coming from the Oil and Gas Sector, the government must increase the level of PSIP funding to improve service delivery.

Last year, Morobe Province received K45 million in PSIP Grants, of which over K33 million was spent, while the balance was carried forward to this year.

Morobe has become the focus of government attention with the completion of the Lae Tidal Basin Project.

In the next few months, a Chinese contractor will begin constructing the Lae-Nadzab four lane highway, and it is expected to possible double the size of Morobe’s economy.
