Mona on Illegal Goilala Swearing In: Lack of Proper Funding the Cause

Member for Goilala, Daniel Mona, and his district administration will rescindthe early swearing in ceremony of elected LLG members.

This ceremony was deemed illegal bythe Electoral Commission on Monday following our news coverage last Friday.

Andrew Trawen appealed to all district and provincial governments to refrain from hosting such ceremonies until all writs are returned onthe 30th of August 2013.

The MP was upset and explained tothe media whythe swearing in ceremony followed soon after counting.

Mr. Mona diverted his arguments to election funds. He pointed fingers atthe Electoral Commission saying that it did not providethe funds needed for the Goilala LLG elections.

He said his district had used half a million kina from its District Services Improverment Program to run a smooth LLG election. Most ofthe funds covered logistics.

Mr. Mona called onthe Electoral Commission to make funds available and return tothe district onthe 30th of August to makethe declarations and collectthe writs.

Prior to election, the Electoral Commission allocated K500 thousand tothe Central Provincial Government to assist with election logistics for its districts.

The member for Goilala said his district administration was toldthese funds were for police allowance alone.
