Sandaun Governor, Amkat Mai, questioned the Minister for State Enterprises in Parliament today if the Electricity Project for Vanimo to Batas will still go ahead as planned by former Minister, Ben Micah.
The project was planned almost four years ago for electricity to be supplied to Vanimo town from Indonesia’s Jayapura City.
However, to date little work has been done with transmission lines yet to be established.
State Enterprises Minister, William Duma, in response, said if previous arrangements by the former Minister were still in discussion, then the Government will have no problem but to assist. He also advised the Governor Mai to come clear if the deal is still active or if PNG Power Limited will be engaged to takeover the project.
With the province developing two major agriculture projects in the Vanimo-Green area, the Governor said it is time the national government takes notice and fast tracks the progress of this vital service.
