Local village developing through self-reliance

An inspiring story of self-reliance…

While other communities wait  for funding from politicians and donor organizations, the Kasu people in the Raikos area of Madang are showing Papua New Guinea the true meaning of self-reliance and economic independence.

Their story began in 1986 when they funded the construction of a road linking their mountain village to the coast. They went on to buy two land cruisers that carry cocoa and vanilla to the coast for sale in Madang.

Recently, they built a cocoa fermenter that now allows them to increase the value of their cocoa and bring in more revenue.
