LNG Plant Landowners Association Reps Caution Government on Outstanding Royalty Benefits

by Fabian Hakalits – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The LNG Plant Landowners Association representing the villages of Papa, Boera, Rearea and Porebada have cautioned the National Government to pay all outstanding royalty and benefits.

The Government’s lack of response has irked villagers, raising grievances related to the PNG LNG Project.

The LNG Plant Landowners Association representatives fronted up at the EMTV News Office and raised their concerns about overdue royalty and equity benefits of the PNG LNG Projects.

Chief Nao Nao, association chairman says this is now the demand.

They claim they have written several letters to the Prime Minister, but these have gone unanswered, leaving the landowners in suspense.

Deputy Chairman, Muri Henao, said it’s very damaging because people have been stripped off their rights to their own land.

What they want is for the National Government, to release funds contained in the 11 percent share, through the landowners association.

The LNG Plant Landowners Association called on the National Government to review the economic model used in the UBSA, provide credible information and deal with the legitimate group.
