K-Dumen and Mereani Masani in Dumen Extras

Papua New Guinean music group K-Dumen has recruited PNG female soloist Mereani Masani and several other artists to form a new group called Dumen Extras.

The group says it is wary of the lack of protection for the PNG music industry from piracy, which is crippling sales and income for home grown talent.

K-Dumen is a legend in his own right; he’s been amongst the best in the PNG music industry.

Today, K-Dumen made an announcement to reinvent the group by collaborating with Morobean singing sensation Mereani Masani and other PNG singers.

“Artists from other provinces want to come and sing with us, for example Robert Oka while others like Sam Okai have already sang we will be working on the song soon,” says K-Dumen.

The duo has already released several singles together and has taken the national airwaves by storm.

Masani will be involved in a different style of music to her own, but she says it’s for her people.

“For me personally, I feel very honoured to be working with the legends,” she says.

The group has also come out condemning piracy in the PNG music industry, with former executive producer Kevin Ibum saying artists are losing money.

The talk about piracy comes a week after PNG music legend, Patti Potts Doi, asked fans to respect artists and buy genuine CDs.
