An NGO group called FORD based in Mt Hagen says women must be giventhe chance to expand small businesses.

Close to twenty women fromthe Jiwaka Province graduated with Small Business Certificates recently.
Nineteen women attendedthe two – week training on Start Your Business and Financial Education. They included business women and aspiring entrepreneurs. Most ofthe women are affiliated tothe Jiwaka Provincial Council of Women The training was a pre-requisite for any ofthe Womenrsquo;s group to be eligible to take out loans ranging from One to Three thousand kina.
Mr Pu’u said an agreement between a Dutch organisation for Development and FORD has enabled that only 15 groups would be eligible for seed capital. Bet it was good news for these participants as not only receivedtheir certificates but also gottheir cheques.

Victor Walep,the Beard of Trustees Chairman of FORD saidthe organisation is supported by UNDP and AusAID. About K30, 000 is made available for lending.
Mr Walep urgedthe women to repaythe loans on time so that thers can borrow as well.
