Ipatas: Schools to be Given Priority During Frost and Drought Spell

Enga Governor, Peter Ipatas, says schools in Enga will be prioritised to receive support during the frost and drought spell.

Governor Ipatas said, schools must be operational, so the academic year is not disrupted.

The Enga Governor said this, following his call for the national government to release relief funding for frost affected provinces.

Enga is a province that has over 5 higher learning institutions and over 80 different levels of schools. All these learning institutions now face the threat of shutting down as frost spreads through the province.

Yesterday, Ipatas made known that schools will be supported with rations, adding that this will be prioritised.

The national government is yet to release 80 per cent of Enga’s Provincial Service Improvement Program funds.

Governor Ipatas wants the national government to intervene, before the situation get worse. To date, the frost experienced in the province has destroyed plants and garden produce, and water is becoming scarce with water levels dropping.

The Enga Governor was in the province to assess and see the damage caused by the frost and will present a report to the national government.
