The Buka Urban Council is driving an awareness campaign to educate the general public on cleanliness, and maintaining Buka Town’s image.
The council has kick-started one of its regular programs which is the cleanathon event.
This is all part of programs initiated by Buka Town Manager, Edward Kenai, set to drive Buka as a tourism town.
The cleanathon was held at different venues including Hutjena, Hahela, Kubu, Ieta Village and around the Buka Town area.
Individuals like Glenny’s Tup who is a primary school teacher and Immaculate Tauva, took time off from her busy schedule and joined in the awareness campaign ‘Tourism Driven Town’.
“We are happy to be part of this program, to keep Buka Town clean.”
Elvie Alphonse who works with the Buka Urban Council told EMTV News that with more developments that are part of Bougainville’s restoration of services, there has been influx of people into the autonomous region.
And it’s important that Buka Town’s cleanliness must be maintained.
“We have to maintain the image of Buka Town. And we all must be responsible in ensuring that our beautiful town is clean at all times.”
An appeal has been lodged to individuals in the public and private sector to join in the awareness campaign ‘Tourism Driven Town’.
The council has embarked on a strategy to conduct a wide range of activities that will drive this vision forward.
