Papua New Guinea’s top football franchise, Hekari United is empowering kids through its School of Excellence football program.
The program has attracted a huge following of children of all ages.
It is aimed at teaching kids the basics of soccer.
Papua New Guinea has a huge talent base in football, but over the years, opportunities to expose these talents have been scarce. This has contributed to the poor representation of football players abroad.
Founder of the Hekari United School of Excellence Football Program, Vonnie Kapi Natto, raised concern that elite football players are not given the opportunity to be professional players.
Through the Hekari United School of Excellence Football Program, she hopes to nurture aspiring football talents to represent the country in the future.
The program was proven to be successful last year with more than 600 children taking part.
This year, the program will expand to other provincial centers
With the assistance of Hekari Football players, kids are taught the rudimentary skills of the game like footwork, dribbling and kicking.
Mrs. Kapi Natto plans to partner with other Junior Development Programs in the region to give more exposure to the youngsters.
