GRADE 8 CERTIFICATION CRITERIA

A school inspector has clarified to parents and students on the Grade Eight certification criteria to avoid inconvenience if it arises.

NCD Zone one school Inspector Pokatou Litau highlighted the certification criteria during the Grade 8 graduation held at the Daugo Primary School recently on Fisherman Island outside of Port Moresby.

Inspector Litau outlined the certification criteria for grade eight students who sat for the National examination recently and are waiting their results.

“The marks that will be given or the grading that will be given in the certificates will be in the following categories:

VH stands for Very High achievement

H stands for High achievement

A stand for Average achievement and

L stands for Low achievement,” Litau said.

“Any students that scores marks between 45-50 will be categorize under Very High achievement, 35-44 is High achievement, 25-34 is Average achievement, and 0 -24 is Low achievement,” he said.

Mr Litau said that there is no failure in the grading system.

He added that if the students do not secure a space in Grade 9, they can enroll in the Flexible Open Distance Learning centers available in major centers around the country.

“There are a lot of opportunities available,” Litau said.

“Another opportunity is through FODE, Flexible Open Distance Education.

Today the government is allocating funds in promoting FODE.

So the grades 8, 10 and 12 students, when they don’t make in their examination they can go and upgrade their marks through FODE.

FODE is more flexible, you can stay at home, do your work or assignment and submit for marking.

Your marks will be given to you and you can then sit for the national exams to continue on to Grade 9 in high schools,” he said.

Inspector Litau said FODE gives students a second chance to further their education.
