Less than one year to go, team Fiji are at their preparation stages of selecting a squad for the 2015 Port Moresby Pacific Games.
Regardless of their small population, Fiji is known for their large number of sporting talent within their shores.
Team Fiji is looking to reignite and showcase their untapped talent to the entire Oceania region come 2015.
Despite their downfall at the last games in 2011 in New Caledonia, General Manager of Team Fiji, Caroline Whippy believes the forthcoming games will provide an excellent opening for Fiji to improve their ranking on the medal tally, with the hope to cause an upset.
Mrs. Whippy believes the preparations this time around are much better, as most sports and individual athletes are prepared.
Athletes from the last games in 2011 were a lot younger, and four years on, they have matured with more experience and discipline.
However, the number one concern surrounding the team’s preparations is the lack of funds and expenses allocated.
Team Fiji has received funds from the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASNOC) and the Fijian Government, though not enough to place them in a comfortable position.
The sporting body’s now have the heavy responsibility of allocating funds to assist the team’s preparations and securing training facilities.
