By Merilyn Diau-Katam – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Since the launching of the Women’s Micro Bank operated for and by women, which is the first of its kind in the Pacific, the national government has supported its organisation.

Chief Sir Peter Ipatas, says women also contribute to the country’s economic developments and that the government is starting to appoint women for high positions in parliament.

PNG Women in Business Founder, Janet Sape, said, “Not only has these created opportunities for women to become entrepreneurs, it has also created a new standard for women to aspire to”.

This is a big accomplishment for Papua New Guinean women.

“We women, need to come together and make an impact, for the lives of the younger generation.” Mrs. Sape said.

The event celebrated PNG women and their accomplishments for this year, with attendance from various government departments, the private sector, women in business entrepreneurs and VIP guests, including US Ambassador Walter North.

The night was not complete without special performances from the popular EMTV show, Vocal Fusion, singers Morris Opeti and Didi Maru .

A fashion show was also staged to showcase talented PNG women designers.
