The East Sepik Provincial Government is investing in the production of cocoa seedlings.
This comes following the cocoa pod borer pest that has affected cocoa production in the province.
Today (August 10), local farmers from as far as Maprik and Yangoru Districts, gathered at Hawain Cocoa Nursery in the Wewak electorate, to witness its project launching.
East Sepik Governor, Allan Bird encouraged the 138,000 farmers in the province to work together to increase its production.
K1.8 million has been committed to this program and its drawing wide interest from local entrepreneurs.
Since its refurbishment in 2015, the nursery has produced 40, 000 seedlings in three years.
However, East Sepik is aiming to produce 80 million seedlings after four years.
