A senior member of the East New Britain provincial government has been arrested and charged today by Kokopo police over conspiracy and abuse of public office.
Jeffery ToKunai, the East New Britain provincial transport advisor was charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the East New Britain provincial government, one count of stealing by false pretence and one count of abuse of office.
East New Britain provincial police commander, Senior Inspector Joseph Tabali has confirmed his arrests.
It is understood, Mr. ToKunai had improperly removed a provincial government vehicle and kept it under his ownership for several months.
The matter was later brought to the attention of the provincial government and the police.
Mr. ToKunai remains in police custody with no bail.
