Dr Ken Ngangan isthe new Acting Secretary for Department of Finance.
Chief Secretary Manasupe Zurenuoc handed overthe reins on behalf ofthe government withthe official documents certifying Dr Ngangan as Acting Secretary.
The official hand over took place atthe Hideaway Hotel in Port Moresby. Staff and management ofthe Finance Department were part ofthe occasion.
Minister for Public Service Sir Puka Temu also gracedthe occasion, along with Finance Minister James Marape.
Minister Marape’saidthe finance department needs to align withthe Vision 2050 plan becausethe department isthe heart beat ofthe government’system andthe nation.
Making reference to recent issues surrounding illegal payments made bythe finance departmentoMinister Marape’saidthe department must have control mechanisms in place to follow up on every cheque it’signs.
“We must be custodians of what happens tothe cheque we sign. We must audit well, and monitor wherethese cheque go to and thatthey’re used for the purposesthey serve,” said Marape.
New Acting Secretary for Finance, Dr Ken Ngangan gave his remarksthen. He reminded his new colleagues thatthe department’s role was to protect public monies. Thus, his first duty as Acting Secretary will be to restorethe department’s credibility.
Dr Ngangan, an accountant by profession, comes with a wealth of experience and credentials, one of which includes being a trained fraud management trainer.
He said he expects a zero tolerance to fraud and corruption.
