Thirty participants are currently undergoing training under the Department of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Service Training program.
Of the participants, twenty are recent graduates, while the rest are from various government departments in the country.
Over 400 applications were received last year with only 20 recent graduates from the University of Papua New Guinea and Divine Word University while others are from nine different government departments.
Acting Secretary for Foreign Affairs, William Dihm, told participants that undertaking the training prepares them for the responsibility and the demand for knowledge and history of the country during foreign service.
Sir Puka Temu, while addressing the participants, challenged them and the department to build a strong and vibrant foreign service that will make a difference to Papua New Guinea.
He strongly requested the department and those undergoing the training to focus on the image, representation and priorities for securing resources of and for the country abroad.
The training program has 12 modules that will be spread over nine months.
After the training participants will be engaged with the department and have an opportunity to be posted to foreign mission offices.
