Cultural Unity: Simbu people celebrates provincial day in Lae

The Year 2016 has seen various provincial days celebrated in cultural and traditional attire and singsing groups in Papua New Guinea’s two main cities.

Today in Lae, the people from the Simbu Province residing in Lae, celebrated their provincical day.

The event was held near West Taraka – an area that has been the focus of a police crackdown on crime.

These are residents from Lae City, especially West Taraka who have come to celebrate and witness the Simbu Day at East Taraka.

With the recent Law and Order problems in the area, the Simbu community did not hesitate to celebrate their day and to showcase their culture and tradition.

The former Councillor for Ward 6, Peter Wagu said this event was planned to be celebrated for the first time in Lae.

The young and old came in their provincial colours to celebrate the day

The coordinator for a singsing group and a retired teacher said, the younger generations should continue to look after their culture and traditions.
