Coca Cola Supports Athletics PNG

By Raphaella Kaore – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

Coca Cola came to the assistance of Athletics PNG at the recently conducted Southern Region Championships in Port Moresby, by sponsoring the championship medals with a contribution of K2,500.

The event saw a huge turnout with hundreds of youngsters eager to follow in the footsteps of Toea Wisil, Donna Koniel, Nelson Stone, Mowen Boino, Rellie Kaputin and the other stars of the PNG team that amassed 22 gold medals at the recent Pacific Games.

Standout performers were sprinter Letisha Pukaikia of Port Moresby International School, Martin Orovo (800m) and Benjamin Aliel (400m) from Oro Province; and Joshua Relawa (POMIS) in the discus throw.

Athletics PNG President, Tony Green, thanked Coca Cola for their support, adding that Athletics PNG was keen to forge closer links with the company as they seek to build on the success of the Pacific Games.

”We have plans for more school based competitions next year and we hope to work in partnership with Coca Cola on these and other events,” he said.

Athletics PNG Development Officer, Monica Henao, was on hand to receive the cheque on behalf of the organisation.
