Central Team Selection: Gearing Up for 2014 PNG Games

Five districts from the Central Province are in full swing, participating and competing in different sporting codes.

The aim of the tournament is to select potential athletes to form Team Central from the five different districts in the Central Province.

 

This team will represent Central Province at the PNG games that will be held in Lae this year.

 

Centrals Province sports men and women from the five districts gathered at Laloki high school since Tuesday to attend a sporting tournament.

 

Athletes from Hiri, Kairuku, Rigo, Abau and Goilala districts all attended the tournament.

 

The Aim of the competition is to identify talent to be part of Team Central to participate in the 2014 PNG Games in Lae.

 

Some of the sporting codes in the tournament where; basketball, volleyball, touch, soccer and field and track events. All these events are in preparations for the PNG games that will be held in Lae in November this year.

 

Most of the competitors are from the village which is what the games are based on, creating and identifying potential athletes from the village level before the selection processes.

 

The games will continue tomorrow morning followed by the announcement of Team Central in the afternoon.
