Central Province Teachers Upset Over Delayed Leave Fares

By Rosemary Yambune – EMTV News Cadet Journalist

Teachers from Central province teachers have expressed disappointment over the delay in payment of their leave entitlements.

Most who teach in rural areas, traveled into Port Moresby today, at their own expense to speak with authorities regarding this issue.

Today, the Central Provincial Government’s headquarters was packed with disappointed teachers seeking answers from authorities over a delay in their leave fares yet again.

For many, leave applications were submitted in June this year, with their leave entitlements expected to be ready soon after the close of the academic year early in December.

But for all these teachers – disappointment yet again.

This delay in payment also saw some teachers in raising concerns on outstanding leave entitlements from previous years.

Provincial Education Division Superintendent Operations, Gaile Gaoma explained the reasons that caused the delay, in the payment of the leave fares.

Mr. Gaoma said authorities were fully aware of the delay and would be working overtime to fast-track this process.
