Arore stood down as Minister

Higher Education Minister David Arore has stood down as Minister following his arrest and charges of bribery.

Mr Arore met with Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and sought relief.

Mr O’Neill said Mr Arore’s decision is in line withthe standard he has asked Ministersto set for themselves andthe officethey hold.

ThPM :ppointed Treasurer Don Polye as Acting Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology.

Mr Arore was arrested during overthe weekend in Popondetta, Nothern Province on election-related charges. He wasthen released on bail that night and awaits court.

Provincial Police Commander Superintendent Victor Isouve saidthe arrest culminates eight months of investigations. Arore has been charged on counts of Official Corruption, Treating and Beibery.

The Minister travelled tothe Province to deliver supplies for flood victims in Tufi, where he was arrested on Warrant.
