In a media release released earlier today , Air Niugini advises their valued customers that the airline has cancelled Cairns flights for Monday 18 th December due to continuous rain and flooding around Cairns which has resulted in closure of the airport.
A decision on flights for Tuesday onwards will be made later today. Customers who are holding tickets for the affected flights may change or refund their flights without penalties.
Further, the airline has advised their customers to contact Air Niugini or any Travel Agent for further information. Air Niugini has a close affiliation to the city of Cairns and hold the people of Cairns and Far North Queensland in their thoughts and prayers as they battle through the effects of massive flooding.
Air Niugini will return to their normal scheduled services, as soon as possible. The airline company regrets any inconvenience caused, however stated that safety is paramount in their operations.
The city of Cairns and a number of remote communities are among those worst hit by the record-breaking flooding, after a year’s worth of rain fell in less than a week.
