Yama to File Case Against Electoral Commission

Madang businessman Peter Yama says he will file a contempt of court proceeding againstthe Electoral Commission alleging that it failed to conduct a recount of ballots for Usino/Bandi as ordered bythe court.

The hearing yesterday atthe Waigani Court House, where petitioner Peter Yama was present in person, was to do withthe submission Yama had filed to disqualify Justice Stephen Kassman from ruling onthe petition.

Yama said he would file a case againstthe Electoral Commission for contempt. This is based onthe decision issued by Justice David Cannings atthe Madang National Court on May 16 for the recount order for Usino/Bandi electorate seat.

Nickson Kiuk, Mr Yama said that it is protocol for the Electoral Commission to comply withthe order and allowthe recount to proceed. Yama saidthe Usino/Bandi people havethe right to know whotheir rightly elected leader is.
