In its' short history as a province, Jiwaka had its first ever Open Day yesterday in Port Moresby.
Organised by the University of PNG Jiwaka Students Union, the event was attended by many.
The event staged at Gerehu Secondary School grounds and was a huge success, funded by NCD Governor Powes Parkop and other officials such as Event’s Chairman Benjamin Mul and Frank Kombuk Kii, the Jiwaka Union patron.
Anglimp South Waghi MP, Komun Joe Koim, was also part of the attendees.
The event's lead organisers, the UPNG Jiwaka students, dressed in traditional attire and danced to the beat of their kundu drums.
Local artists from the province, the famous Dop Doit and Kondol Medley, kept the crowd entertained throughout the afternoon.
Despite lack of awareness, the organisers were pleased with the outcome of the day and the number of people that turned up.
The chairman of the Open Day acknowledged the NCDC administration for recognisng Jiwaka Province and the students for their initiative.
UPNG Jiwaka Union's patron challenged all Jiwaka leaders to unite for the development of the new province.
This will be now be an annual event for Jiwakans living in NCD and the organising committee is already planning for a bigger event in 2015 to coincide with Jiwaka Provincial Day.
