National National News Minister, Nick Kuman, will table a Parliamentary Referral Committee Report on ‘Teachers Leave Fares and Entitlement’ in next week’s house sitting.
Appropriate responses will be made, to properly manage the ongoing saga affecting teachers throughout the country.
The education minister was responding to Wosera-Gawi MP, Joseph Yopyyopy.
Mr Yopyyopy stated that if the government was serious enough on quality education, it must properly address and manage teachers’ incentives, such as, leave fares and entitlement.
Minister Kuman explained the decentralisation of education responsibilities to the provinces has enabled provincial government’s to be accountable for teacher’s welfare, because Waigani only deals with salaries and wages.
Warrants that were received by October 2014, amounted to K26.1 million, remitted to provincial treasuries with the exception of the Western and Simbu provinces.
To avoid this problem, it is advised that teachers on leave must submit their applications before the month of May, to all provincial education offices, to take appropriate action.
Teachers’, who submit their documentations after the advised time, are at risk of having their funds processed later than expected.
The Papua New Guinea Government has increased its budget of K26 million to K31 million, to cater for the leave fares and entitlemen’s exercise, for teachers nationwide.
Minister Kuman will make a ministerial statement in Parliament next week.
