2016 PNG Update

The 2016 PNG Update began yesterday morning at the University of Papua New Guinea’s Waigani Campus.

This year’s conference is themed ‘Sustaining Development (in PNG) Beyond the Resource Boom’.

It’s been a tough year for the University of Papua New Guinea, but day one was somewhat a rebirth for the institution that marks 50 years since its first classes were delivered in 1966.

The university reclaimed its honor by hosting the 2016 PNG Update and facilitated intellectual discussions and debates on issues of national interest. This was done in collaboration with the Australian National University.

There was a range of speakers ranging from policy makers, bureaucrats, professionals from the public sector, private sector, NGO and others.

Discussions looked at PNG’s economic outlook, strategies to convert the resources boom into development, macro and fiscal management, social and gender issues in a growing economy and more.

The Seminar continues today and is sponsored by the Australian Government, the Asian Development Bank, UPNG and ANU.
