PNG Ports Ad angers Lae Ports Contractors

PNG Maritime Union raised concerns over an expression of interest seeking a new company to mendthe Lae port.

ThPNG Maritime Union claimedthere were no proper consultation betweenthe company anPNG ports cooperation. The Union has threatened strike action in PNG Ports fails to its concerns.

ThPNG Ports Corporation in Lae again has come under fire; this time bythPNG Maritime Union andthe Ahi landowners.

ThPNG Maritime Union andtheLandowners expressed concerns overthe expression of interest advertised inthe two daily’s seeking to replacethe existing contracting company.

They have threatened to stop all ports operations if no action is taken bythe national government andthPNG Ports Corporation.

They are concerned that any new company liaison to managethe port services will mean job cuts and create more unemployment.

The Union is also opposin PNG Ports Corporation plans to removerthe import export clearance or IDD docket fromthe contractors main gates and cut jobs.

The Lae Port has become an important facility tothPNG economy.

Last year landowners atthe Labu Tale closedthe Lae Tidal Besin and called onthe national government to provide a benefit package.

Any futher actions taken bythPNG Maritime Union will affectthe entire country especiallythe large inland mining operations.
