The PNG Kumuls team has been named for the Pacific Test match against the Fiji Bati’s on the Gold Coast, in Australia, this weekend.
The team is dominated by players from the SP PNG Hunters, with a few exceptions made to players contracted to national rugby league clubs in Australia.
Sydney Roosters winger, Nene MacDonald, is one of the three players from the NRL, included in the team.
The 18 member team is without surprise, dominated by the SP PNG hunters.
Captain of the Hunters, Israel Eliab, Willie Minoga and Wartovo Puara, obvious inclusions to the side, will be complimented by Sydney Rooster’s blazing winger, Nene MacDonald, and the Albert brothers from the Penrith Panthers in their first test match of the year, against the Fiji Bati’s.
The rest of the squad is comprised of players that were handpicked, from the Intrust Super Cup teams.
Tyson Martin has been with the Mackay Cutters in the Intrust Cup division, while brother Rhyse is contracted to the Townsville Blackhawks. The Martin brothers are no strangers to the Kumuls jersey, having played for Papua New Guinea before.
The significance in this year’s test match will complement PNGRFL’s 40th anniversary of the Kumuls jersey.
The PNG Kumuls will run on to the pitch at the CBUS Stadium in Robina, on the Gold Coast on Saturday the 2nd of May, to face the Fiji Bati’s.
