Palais Squad for Fiji Tour Released

The Papua New Guinea Rugby Football Union (PNGRFU) has released a customised Palais team for this year’s Fiji tour.

The inaugural Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship will be hosted by the Fiji Rugby Union in Suva at ANZ Stadium on November 5.

Brisbane-based sisters, Marlugu and Harkana Dixon, make a comeback to both the 15s and 7s side, while PNG’s first ever woman to play professional rugby in Europe, Melanie Kawa, makes her debut for her motherland.

Pacific Games Gold Medalist in Boxing Debbie Kaore, makes her come back to rugby union, alongside Kymlie Rapilla, Joanne Lagona and Cassandra Sampson; while the Dixon sisters, Harkana and Marlugu return, after close to a year of absence on the national side.

In the 15 woman format, a number of newbies have been introduced to the squad. With PNG superstar, Melanie Kawa, making her debut, alongside Nina Stein and Augusta Livuana.

The Winner in Suva, in November, will advance to the final WRWC2017 Asia/Oceania Qualifier event in December in Hong Kong. This tournament will feature two Asian qualifiers and one Oceania qualifier, with the two highest placed teams qualifying for the Women’s Rugby World Cup in Ireland.
