Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has acknowledged the European Union for being PNG’s second largest development partner.
The Prime Minister met with the Head of EU to PNG, Martin Dihm, during a courtesy call.
PM O’Neill noted that the EU’S development assistance to PNG focuses on issues such as poverty eradication, attainment of the Millennium Development Goals, rural economic development, democracy and good governance.
He expressed the government’s appreciation to the EU for all the support and assistance given to PNG.
O’Neill assured the Head of EU to PNG that economic gains through LNG proceeds will be channeled towards addressing fundamental development challenges, particularly with respect to service delivery and infrastructure development.
The PM also noted the importance of EU’s assistance to PNG and other Pacific Island countries indicate that the EU and PNG government can partner in the delivery of vital projects and programs under the Pacific Islands Development Assistance Package.
