Northern Provincial Police Commander, Chief Inspector Lincoln Gerari, says he wants a drug free society.
Responding to questions raised by EMTV News this afternoon, Mr Gerari said they are now identifying people and villages, growing marijuana.
This afternoon, a man in his 40s from Serembe Village, in the Sohe District, was arrested for cultivating matured marijuana.
“This man has been cultivating marijuana and after a tip off, we have to mobilise and conduct checks.
“Upon arrival, we then confirmed that he has been cultivating marijuana so the police uprooted the plant.”
PPC Gerari said the suspect has been apprehended and is now in police custody.
He is locked up in a cell block at the Popondetta Police Station.
PPC Gerari said the sale of marijuana has been flooding in rural and urban areas.
“Let me also warn people not to cultivate marijuana as we will ensure that the law is followed,” Gerari said.
