The humble Tambul Station came alive,with traditional performances to markthe NARI Agriculture Show atthe Highlands Regional Centre of NARI at Tambul in Western Highlands Province.
It was an opportune time for local scientists to tellthe people and especially farmers abouttheir research work inthe agriculture sector, improverments made to make crops grow well in high altitudes ofthe country.
There were also displays on farming techniques, agricultural produce, and ways to improver potato yields and improverd fish farming techniques.
Also in attendance was Jiwaka Governor Dr William Tongamp.
His message was clear that people must still turn to agriculture and this must be fully supported by government funding.
“Government must continue to support NARI. As long as some of us are inthe parliamentowe will continue to fight for agriculture investments in Papua New Guinea” said Tongamp.
He has called onthe people andthe government not to lose sight aboutthe importance ofthe agriculture industry.
Governor Tongamp saidthe extractive industry was taking precedence but he warned that when allthe oil and gas is gone,the agriculture sector will still be remain.
He said it was incumbent on all MP’s fromthe Highlands Region to ensure sufficient amount of funding was allocated tothe agricultural sector inthe Region.
