Morobe Education Board Clarifies Charges under TFF Policy

by Colleen Barilae – EM TV, Lae

According to Education Minister Nick Kuman, Tuition Fee Free Policy (TFF) funds were to be released in the second week of February this year.

In Morobe, the provincial education board had allowed its schools to charge project fees at the beginning of this year because the TFF funds were not released at the start of the school year.

Morobe Provincial Education Advisor Keith Jiram said the provincial education board wanted schools to start operating, so project fees had to be charged. Jiram’s response comes after parents demanded Lae’s primary schools to allow their students to go to school for free.

Jiram highlighted a nationwide problem that has created confusion in schools.

In Lae, the St Paul’s Primary School and Huonville Primary School’s administration dealt with complaints from parents.

Mr Jiram said TFF funds have since been released to banks for processing before being deposited into school accounts registered with the Department of Education.

The Morobe provincial education board expects to reimburse to parents once the funds have been cleared by the banks.
