Lutherans in Australia Supply Birth Kits

The ladies from Trinity Lutheran Church under the guideance of Rita Fenske, wife of Art Fenske who founded Lutheran Shipping after WW2 in Madang, have been supplying birthkits for Lutheran Health Services for many years.

The birth kits were transported free of charge aboard the Kalibobo Spirit returning from Australia on its annual refit and survey.

Sir Peter Barter, Chairman of the Melanesian Foundation, said that the birthkits would be distributed to remote areas of Madang to assist rural health workers deliver healthy babies, and he personally thanked Rita for her continual work in helping to serve the people of Madang.

Sr. Rita Fenske, lived and worked on Krangket Island running the medical clinic for the Lutheran Church.

Following the death of her husband, she has resided in Cairns and maintains close contact with Sir Peter and many people from Madang.
