Metropolitan Superintendent, Iven Lakatani, has raised concerns over the illegal use of police uniforms in armed robberies.
This year, there have been three reported armed robberies around Lae city involving robbers disguised as police officers.
The Metropolitan Superintendent has warned the public in Lae to take precautions when allowing any police personnel into their homes.
His concerns have come following more than two robbers disguised themselves as police officers, and robbed a home at Lae’s 3rd Street.
Today, at a press conference, the Metropolitan Superintendent warned the public to be careful when approached by police officers with search warrants.
“This group of criminals, they come once in a while, dressed in police uniforms, armed with fake search warrants,” Metropolitan Superintendent, Iven Lakatani, said.
The Metropolitan Superintendent is concerned over the illegal use of police uniforms in armed robberies.
Police in Lae are now investigating how police uniforms were obtained by the criminals.
This particular crime is the third amongst other similar robberies that have occured this year.
Police are trying to establish whether companies who supply police uniforms are responsible for providing uniforms to criminals.
