Papua New Guinea professional kickboxer, Maxy Kanea, aka the ‘Black Thunder’, has made his intentions known, to stage an international tournament in Port Moresby, on November 25, featuring local fighters against some of world’s best.
Kanea, who has trained and fought under Stanley ‘the Head Hunter’ Nandex, currently trains over a hundred amateur fighters and heads a kickboxing club based at Bomana outside Port Moresby .
However, with the retirement of Nandex in professional Kickboxing, Kanea and other fellow fighters are somewhat displaced and are taking up different roles in society.
Kanea, a soldier by profession, has put his job on the line, dedicating his time to his beloved sport of kickboxing.
Funding has always been an issue for Kanea who has initiated a kick boxing club under his mentor-ship at Bomana and several other locations around the nation’s capital.
Kanea currently trains over a hundred kick boxers from his local club, one of whom is young Wani Palme who showed tremendous skill and dedication in which his mentor sees as a potential prospect to excel higher.
Maxy fought Tonny Penny in their previous meet in Australia, which he won by unanimous decision, and now has plans to bring the fight to Papua New Guinea and hopefully bring along some top fighters to compete as well.
