Ipatas Cup Into The Finals

The Coca Cola Ipatas Cup will end this weekend with its grand final, at the Lae rugby League grounds.

Twelve teams will battle it out in the finals, to see who walks away with the bigger share of the K250 000 prize money.

The Northern and Southern challenges have been privileged to have two teams each in the finals. For fifteen years, the Ipatas cup has been developing young rugby League talents, from all over Papua New Guinea.

After a successful staging of the Ipatas Cup this year, fans and Rugby League followers throughout the country, will soon know which are the top teams in the competition.

All twelve teams have been placed into two pools, Eastern and Western end, to begin the knockouts on Friday.

Over time, the Ipatas Cup has gained popularity as the biggest offseason rugby league competition in the country, sanctioned by the PNGRFL.

This year eighty-four teams from both the rural and urban areas, took part in the competition, and many raw talents were identified and selected for the Enga Mioks train on squad.

In between the games on Saturday, eight Women’s Rugby League teams, will also battle for supremacy.

A good number of political delegates as well as MPs are also expected to be present on the Grand final day.

Enga Governor Chief Peter Ipatas is the official guest, and will be kicking off the grand final.
