IBS Debate Competition

Selected debaters from schools competing in the annual IBS Debate Competition will represent PNG in the Melanesian Spearhead Debate Competition, later this year.

This was announced at the opening of the 2014 IBS Debate Competition at the Institute of Business Studies in Port Moresby today.

 

The competition for schools in Central province began today. Kemabolo, Red Scar and Laloki Secondary are amongst the six participating schools.

 

The challenge will run for three days. The elimination round began today with semi-finals on Thursday and finals on Friday.

 

The first two schools to debate were Red Scar and Kemabolo secondary with the topic Re-introduce Corporal Punishment. Red Scar went for the topic.

 

Two other points team Red Scar raised were students lack respect today and Corporal punishment was only applied by a certain teacher at a given time.  Kemabolo went against the topic.

 

Laloki and Iarowari were second to debate on the topic Housing should be a working condition. And Kwikila and Mt Diamond debated on the topic Global Warming is a Hoax. The competition judges are all from the University of Papua New Guinea with ten to twenty years in the Literature and English Department.
