The SP Sports Female Athlete of the Year award is one of Papua New Guinea’s most prestigious sporting award.

The award is given to sporting female athletes, every year, in recognition of their contributions to sports in PNG.

This year, the three nominees are PNG’s iconic female athlete figures in Dika Toa, Abigail Tere Apisah and Toea Wisil.

For Wisil, this will be the third time for her to be nominated.

She is the undisputed number one female sprinter in the South pacific and known to PNG as the “sprint queen.”

Abigail Tere Apisah, on the other hand, is the young PNG tennis star, making her name in the world of tennis. She represented PNG in several international tournaments, and did so with stellar performances. She has been nominated for this category, for the second time now.

Dika Toua, the name that is hardly missed in the record books of weight lifting in PNG and the Pacific region.

She won a silver medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and Gold medal in the most recent Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.

At the Sydney 2000 Olympics, Toua made history by becoming the first woman to lift weight at the Olympic Games.

From the three nominees, the final selection will be made and announced on March 28th.
