All eyes are on East New Britain, as one of Papua New Guinea’s hot sporting venue.
For this reason, the National Government has allocated funds to help complete the Kalabond Oval.
East New Britain Province has now become a home, for many national and international sporting events.
Kalabond Oval is the sporting oval in Kokopo and home to rugby league team Rabaul Gurias.
The PNG Games in 2012 and others like the Digicel Cup, and the Instruct Super Cup. Sports and National Events Minister Justin Tkatchenko was in the province over the weekend.
At Kalabond, the minister presented the K2 million cheques, under the Sports Enhancement Program, to the Provincial Government.
The money will assists to upgrade the athletics track that will become a training hub, for athletes.
Another commitment of K1 million will be used to upgrade the existing sporting facilities.
The provincial government will allocate more funding, to improve the existing sporting infrastructures.
This is part of the overall plan, to promote tourism in the province, as a generator of internal revenue.
