The Department of Provincial and Local Government Affairs officially commenced its 2016 working year today with a dedication service in Port Moresby.
The department’s Acting Secretary, Dickson Guina, welcomed staff and announced the department’s new tasks for the year with a prayer by Pastor Cameron Wari.
Guina said 2016 will be a challenging year and to deliver changes they must remain focused and work together with government agencies to deliver government services.
Furthermore, he encouraged his employees to be innovative in order to deliver changes, and with a positive mindset vital government services can be implemented to people in rural areas.
“This department is here to give solutions and not problems. And in order to do that, they must have the following qualities.
“Pride to deliver, passion and integrity to serve, professional in conduct and pace to deliver,” he said.
Guina said one way to achieve its priorities is by following the ‘89 District Authority Act.
He said the main focus for the department this year would be the district authorities, 2017 general elections, organic law review and rural service delivery project.
“Through partnerships with government agencies and stakeholders, vital government services will be delivered to the people,” Guina said.
